Emergency Medicine Physicians’ November Efficiency Academy received great reviews and provided to be successful. This unique learning academy provides intensive training for emergency medicine physicians, demonstrating how breaking bad habits and learning some key practices can actually make a difference in their real-life productivity in the ED.

The Academy is a one and a half day intensive training course that focuses on improving emergency physicians’ clinical work flow and competence. The goal of the Academy is to demonstrate to physicians how to work smarter, not harder. Here are some recognized results from graduates who have previously taken the course:

•     Graduates have shown clear improvement in their own personal productivity rankings.
•     64% of the graduates improved their productivity by 0.75 RVU/hr. with the average increase being 1 RVU/hr.
•     Graduates indicated increased personal satisfaction with their work.

Another Emergency Medicine Physicians’ course that is helping to improve physicians’ productivity and satisfaction is the Patient Satisfaction Academy. This unique learning academy provides post-graduate training to emergency physicians in the patient experience – a topic that’s not heavily covered in most medical schools.

Anita Gage, MD, MBA, FACEP, Chief Learning Officer for EMP, serves as the course director. Chief Learning Officers across the country are the highest ranking corporate officers concerning talent or learning management of a corporation, and are experts in corporate and personal training. Dr. Gage and her staff of other experienced emergency physicians provide a rigorous, three-day, eye opening training academy that places physicians head-to-head with patient-actors in simulated encounters.

Feedback is provided by skilled professionals to participating physicians as the journey of self-improvement begins. After these courses, physicians as well as instructors feel deeply rewarded when personal happiness increases as a result of the commitment to being a more effective emergency physician, spouse, parent and friend.
EMP is committed to patient and physician satisfaction. Physicians regularly return home from this academy with a much higher level of personal fulfillment and a deeper understanding of their own role in the satisfaction of emergency department patients. Results of the academy on Press Ganey physician ranking have shown momentous increases in individual rankings maintained over an 18-month period.

Currently, only EMP doctors are eligible to take each course. Each year, the course is scheduled at minimum 5 times and often sold out; the next scheduled open course is slated for April 10– 11, 2012 in Canton, OH. EMP physicians are invited to contact Allison Rittmaier for further information about upcoming courses.
